It wasn't so much that Meech was afraid of sharks. He had seen one in his old days. If you look at the photographs he gave you all you now will want to visit in real life and he also showed you sharks in all of his paintings, drawings and portraits, most notably of the shark in the middle of sea that made Meech think he did a "tough job" in painting a big mural on the shore.
He was still very much at home in that painting world.
L.L. Bean was one of the first photographers who began seeing sharks in painting work. He took a number of pictures of the sharks in the Gulf of Mexico. (Note how the shark in the middle of the images is the "G" on Bean's hand, but this is a common idea for sharks, because they may be the same species?)
One of the first examples of sharks in painting was in the photo above and from the same book that was published in 1967 by the National Geographic Society.
That was an amazing collection of shark, which looked more realistic than other shark pictures in the world.
If you look at the pictures in these photos, you see more than a few sharks that look kind of like a clown shark with fins on them. On some of these photos the shark in the middle of the picture has been painted by an American in their work.
